Eligibility

Ready to go abroad? Make sure you meet all Start Abroad eligibility requirements before you apply.

 

Each Start Abroad location accommodates a different number of students, depending on its capacity.

To apply, you must be a Spring-admitted first-year student who has submitted your UM enrollment deposit. Once you have done that, you will receive an invitation to apply to the program.

  • Age Requirements

    • Barcelona, London, and Rome : Students must be at least 18 years old by the program start date (No exceptions).
    • Dublin : Accepts students under 18.

  • Passport Requirements

    You must hold a valid passport from your country of citizenship that remains valid throughout the program and for at least one year after the return date.

  • Communication Expectations

    You must stay actively engaged with Start Abroad communications. This means you must read all emails and messages, meet all deadlines, and respond in a timely manner. Failure to do so may result in withdrawal from the program and being responsible for any related fees.
