Application Timeline & Process

  • Application Period

    Application period runs from March to early May (Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis)

  • Apply Early

    Space is limited, and programs fill quickly — the sooner you apply, the better your chances of getting your first-choice location.

  • Select Two Location Preferences

    You’ll select a first-choice and second-choice location when applying. Once submitted, your preferences can’t be changed.

  • Application Review and Acceptance

    Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance.

  • Age Requirements

    Barcelona, London and Rome participants must be 18 or older by the program start date (no exceptions). However, Dublin accepts students under 18.

  • Visa Processing

    The Start Abroad office does not handle visa processing. While the office provides as much guidance as possible, applicants are ultimately responsible for actively participating in the process and securing their own visa, if applicable.

  • Housing Policy

    Start Abroad students must live in the housing coordinated by the program. Independent housing is not permitted 

    If a student is removed from provided housing for any reason, they will not be permitted to remain on the program and will be financially responsible for any costs.

  • Communication & Deadlines

    You must stay actively engaged with Start Abroad communications, which will be sent via email. It is your responsibility to ensure that the email address you provide remains active and accessible at all times.

    Applicants are expected to check their email at least once per day. Failure to review important messages, meet deadlines, or follow instructions may result in removal from the program and financial responsibility for any associated fees. It is important that you read all communications and respond in a timely manner.
