Residencia (Residence Hall)

A Residencia is a student residence hall designed for international students studying in Barcelona. While most local university students live at home, these residence halls offer a comfortable, independent living environment with single rooms, shared kitchen spaces, and common study and lounge areas.

Who Should Choose the Residencia Option?

Students often prefer this option if they:

  • Want to be surrounded by a larger community of students
  • Prefer more independence in exploring Barcelona
  • Like doing their own grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning
  • Do not have improving Spanish as their top priority (You can still practice Spanish, but it requires extra effort to meet locals)

Resident Advisor Support

A dedicated Resident Advisor (RA) lives on-site to support Start Abroad students. The RA’s role includes:

  • Creating a welcoming and inclusive community
  • Helping students adjust to local customs and daily life
  • Providing guidance and support throughout the semester
  • Mediating conflicts and supporting a positive living environment
  • Serving as a cultural bridge with knowledge of Spanish and Catalan culture

This hands-on support ensures that students have a safe, comfortable place to live—and a trusted resource to help enhance their cultural and personal journey.
