Travel & entry information

Understanding travel and entry requirements early helps students plan confidently. The information below highlights what to expect for Dublin.

Students participating in the Start Abroad in Dublin Program do not need to apply for a visa in advance to study in Dublin for one semester.

Students with a US passport, or who are not from the European Economic Area (EEA), and are staying in Ireland for more than 90 days to study will need to register with the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS). The registration fee for this is €300. FIE will assist the students with the process once students are in country.

If you are not a U.S. citizen, your visa requirements may differ depending on your nationality. We recommend checking the list of visa-required and visa-exempt countries on the Irish Immigration Service website and contacting the Irish embassy or consulate in your jurisdiction for the most accurate and up-to-date guidance.
